Ha Long Bay

Halong bay offers one of the most iconic images of Vietnam, with over 2,000 limestone islands scattered across the mouth of the bay. Best explored on a romantic cruise or by kayak, these islands are strikingly beautiful - but make sure you go with a guide, as it’s easy to get lost! You can sleep on the boat or stay in a halong bay hotel, or even stop over on one of the largest islands, Cat Ba, which is a protected nature reserve.
Ha Long Bay is stunning whatever the weather - in the sunshine the beautiful turquoise water sparkles in contrast with the greens, whites and greys of the limestone islands, and in the mist the islands rise mysteriously out of the water through the fog. Best of all is spending the night on the water at full moon, when the reflections of the eerie blue light and the cliffs in the water offer a memorable sight
