A stunning island off the coast of Cambodia, Phu Quoc is actually part of Vietnam. Used as a military base during the war (and by the Vietnamese government today) Phu Quoc was rather forgotten about by the government development programmes until growth in internal and external tourism in the past decades. As a result it is undeveloped and simply stunning, and a welcome break from the hustle and bustle of the mainland. Filled with a perfect amount of hotels and resorts, there are enough facilities to keep even the most demanding of tourists happy, yet they are sparse enough to offer peace and quiet, and plenty of empty, calm bays that you can keep all to yourself.
